Despite the instability that has afflicted the global economy in recent years, Hannover Messe 2012, held on Apr. 23-27 and regarded as one of the world's top industry fairs, augured well for the world's industrial development in the second half of this year.

Positive Performance

During its five-day run, Hannover Messe attracted a total of 183,173 visitors from around the world; 23.6% came with firm purchasing plans, and 63.9% were decision makers. A full 95% of this year's visitors were professionals, up 5% from 2008.

More than 150 global business delegations and over 6,500 exhibitors from 65 countries participated in the fair, which, with its high international exposure, offered attractive business opportunities for exhibitors and visitors alike.

The show performed well in all aspects. “All the right topics, a further rise in participation from abroad, and highly satisfied exhibitors – this year's Hannover Messe added up to a complete success,” commented Dr. Wolfram von Fritsch, chairman of the board of Deutsche Messe, at a press conference on the last day of the event. “Hannover Messe 2012 has triggered a new wave of business for industrial enterprises. The show's 5,000 exhibitors will now have their work cut out for them.”

Green Power Spotlight– IndustrialGreen Tec
Hannover Messe 2012 included eight separate trade fairs: Industrial Automation, Energy, MobiliTec, Digital Factory, Industrial Supplies, CoilTechnica, IndustrialGreen Tec, and Research & Technology.

With the globally increase in green consciousness, more businesses than ever are emphasizing the sustainable use and efficiency of resources at every stage of production. This has kept the demand for related knowhow and services growing, and has made high-efficiency recycling a popular trend worldwide.

In line with global trends, the show's keynote topic was “Greentelligence.” Von Fritsch focused the show on three key points: green technologies are a viable business model with the power to drive growth around the world; industry has the solutions needed for achieving sustainability in manufacturing; and green technologies can translate into higher profitability for industry.

According to the organizer, the IndustrialGreen Tec trade fair is the most successful addition to Hannover Messe in the past 10 years. Over 120 exhibitors occupied about 3,000 square meters of booth space to display cutting-edge environmental technologies spanning the whole industrial chain, including recycling and waste disposal, water and soil conservation, noise protection solutions, reduction of air pollution, use of renewable energy and resources, and monitoring and measurement of environmental pollution.

The organizer also set up a competence center and a “Start-up Area” providing value-added services, with senior experts offering solutions on-site. The two-day international GreenTec Conference featured the rollout of green technologies.

Partner Country China
As this year's partner country, mainland China presented solutions for sustainable Greentelligence technology, raising the standard for futuristic partnerships. Hannover Messe 2012 offered an excellent opportunity for China and Germany to upgrade their business relationship to a new level.

Notably, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, accompanied by business and political leaders from China, joined an opening-day tour of the five-day event together with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

A total of 500 Chinese exhibitors presented sustainable technologies in about 9,000 square meters of display area, with their exhibits focusing on state-funded research projects, sustainable mobility concepts, building technologies, and smart energy grids.

“The Chinese companies exhibiting at Hannover Messe have demonstrated that China's economy is firmly set on a new course,” stated Gu Chao, the Director-General for Trade Show Activities of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). “Chinese industry is constantly developing its industrial expertise and has focused its efforts on green technology and sustainability. Germany is a leader in the field of sustainable technology and has a lot of expertise from which China is keen to benefit.”

Taiwanese Content
Although many European countries have recently encountered fiscal difficulties, global operators still consider the European bloc as a valuable market. MIT (Made in Taiwan) industrial parts and components have long been known for their stability, precision, and high quality, and this has made them more competitive than products from other countries in the European and other markets; now, Taiwanese manufacturers are still working to upgrade their R&D and provide assembly solutions.

Quite a number of high-profile Taiwanese technology and industrial companies were present at Hannover Messe 2012. In addition to such majors as Delta Electronics, a provider of power management solutions; Hiwin Technologies Corp., Taiwan's leading manufacturer of precision machinery components; and Kai Suh Suh Enterprise Co., a top supplier of cable ties and wiring accessories, other Taiwanese exhibitors were also on hand: K.S. Terminals Inc., Huawei Technologies Co., Finetec Co., PMI Group, Tatung Company, Shayang Ye Industrial Co., Dinkle Enterprise Co., Anly Electronics Co., and Katron Technologies Inc.

To assist the expansion and global exposure of Taiwan's industrial products, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), a government-backed trade promotion agency, set up a special zone for Taiwanese exhibitors to showcase their innovative products, effectively drawing the attention of foreign visitors.

The Taiwan-based China Economic News Service (CENS) supported the efforts of Taiwanese suppliers to tap overseas markets, as usual, by distributing its industrial export guide books, Taiwan Industrial Suppliers (TIS) and Fastener, Spring & Wiring Special. These popular sourcing guides enabled foreign buyers at the fair to easily and efficiently find the Taiwanese suppliers manning exhibits there.

Hannover Messe 2013: Endless Opportunities
With the success of Hannover Messe 2012, more than 600 companies worldwide have already registered for the 2013 event. Some have inquired about the possibility of booking bigger stands, according to Von Fritsch, boosting the confidence of the organizers about the performance of next year's show.

Next year the focus trade fairs will be Industrial Automation, Energy, MDA- Motion, Drive & Automation, Industrial Supply, and Research & Technology, providing exhibitors and buyers from all over the world with endless opportunities. The 2013 event will be held on Apr. 8 to 12. (Nov. 2012)
