Taipei, Feb. 10, 2012 (CENS)--The Taichung City Government recently held a ceremony to celebrate kicking off the pilot electric vehicle (EV) and charging station project in the largest city in central Taiwan.

With representatives from the Taichung City Government, Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Yulon Nissan Motor Co., and Carplus Auto Leasing Corp. hosting the ceremony, Taichung City mayor Jason Hu presented 64 intelligent battery electric vehicles (BEVs) to different units of the government and announced that the city is leading the construction of 64 charging stations, stressing that the pilot project shows Taichung City's determination to build a low-carbon city.

Yulon Nissan, general agent of Nissans in Taiwan, Nissan Motor Co. of Japan and the Taichung government signed a cooperation memorandum of understanding (MoU) in mid-2010 to carry out an EV pilot project, to which Yulon Nissan is providing 49 Nissan Leaf BEVs.

W.R. Tsai, president of Yulon Nissan, says that the company is proud to be part of the EV pilot project in Taichung, and has constructed three repair/maintenance points for Nissan Leafs in the city.

According to Tsai, the Nissan Leaf is the world's first commercialized zero-emission intelligent BEV and so far 21,000 units have been sold worldwide, stressing that the Leaf has been recognized by consumers, governments and auto media for high technology and eco-friendliness.

Yulon Nissan will continue to work with local governments, consumers and enterprises to promote EVs in Taiwan to make the island a model of EV operation in the world, says Tsai.
