CHMER to Launch Linear Motor-incorporated CNC Machining Center in Q3

2012/02/09 | By Steve Chuang

Taipei, Feb. 9, 2012 (CENS)--The Taiwan-based CHMER EDM, a leading supplier in the EDM (electrical-discharge machine) industry, confirmed recently that its newest CNC (computer numerically controlled) machining center with a linear motor is scheduled for launch in the third quarter of this year, poised to further boost its position in the line.

The company is Taiwan's first or world's second manufacturer of wire cutting machines with linear motors. To ride on the growing trend for linear motor-built EDMs, the company has successfully worked out Taiwan's first homemade linear motor, which has been set for mass production, making CHMER the world's second supplier, following Japan-based Sodick, of mold manufacturing equipment with built-in linear motors.

The company indicated that wire-cutting machines built with linear motors outperform conventional models using screws in terms of corner finishing efficiency and precision. In addition to higher-speed finishing, EDMs developed with linear motors, which produce linear force with unrolled stators and rotors instead of torque, also feature better energy efficiency and 20-50% higher finishing performance according to different materials and sizes, compared to traditional machining centers.

With its linear motor-incorporated wire cutting machines and EDMs proving sought-after worldwide, the company plans to launch a CNC machining center using linear motors in the third quarter of this year, which is under development and will be readily set for production soon. As linear motor-built machine tools, which feature higher machining precision, higher efficiency without mechanical backlash and wear during use, have become the mainstream in the global market, the company will likely enjoy sustainable business growth in the short term.
