Machine-tool Firms Skip Lunar New Year Break to Increase Production

Taipei, Feb., 2012 (CENS)--Taiwan's leading manufacturers of machine tools and accessories, including Rechi Precision Co., Hiwin Technologies Corp., Tongtai Machine & Tool Co., Awea Mechantronic Co. and Goodway Machine Corp., all had to skip the Lunar New Year holidays to keep working to fill orders.

An executive of Hiwin said shift work was needed during the Chinese New Year to fill overseas orders.

Goodway's workers were instructed to return to work as early as possible as the company received rush orders for 200 CNC lathes totaling NT$200 million at the end of last year.

With order visibility till the end of the second quarter, Awea had to resume work on Jan. 27, or two days earlier than allowed by the Chinese New Year holidays, to fill rush orders.

With influx of order inquiries from the electronics industry in Shenzhen of Guangdong province, China, Tongtai instructed workers to resume work early if foreign clients were to visit Taiwan to finalize orders.

Rechi, a leading manufacturer of refrigeration compressors and pumps in China, has order visibility till the end of March, so instructed workers in its plants in Huizhou of Guangdong province and Qingdao of Shandong province to work during the Chinese New Year holidays.
