Exports of Taiwan-made Machine Tools Hit US$2.626 B. in First Eight Months of 2011
2011/11/16 | By Ben ShenTaipei, Nov.16, 2011 (CENS)--Taiwan exported US$2.626 billion of machine tools in the first eight months, up 42.7% from a year earlier, according to the customs-cleared statistics compiled by the Taiwan Machine Tool Foundation (TMTF).
Exports for metal-cutting machine tools amounted to US$2.134 billion, up 49.7% and that for metal-forming machine tools reached US$492.61 million, up 18.7%.
Exports of machining centers grew 62.1% year-on-year in the first eight months, grinding machines, up 58.3%; drilling, tapping and boring machines, up 16.7%; presses and shearing machines, up 18%; and that for other metal-forming machines, up 21.4%.
China and Hong Kong led by absorbing US$1.102 billion of Taiwan-made machine tools in the first eight months, up 25% from a year earlier to account for 42% of the total exports. The U.S. stood at second place with US$191.54 million, up 110.2% and commanding 7.3%. Turkey was the third-largest export outlet with US$128.42 million, up 84.7% and accounting for 4.9%.
Other major export outlets, in descending order, were Thailand, Indonesia, Germany, Brazil, South Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, United Kingdom, and Russia.
The TMTF's tallies also show Taiwan imported US$564.64 million of machine tools in the first eight months, up 34.7% year-on-year. The import of metal-cutting machine tools amounted to US$493.35 million, up 48.3% and that for metal-forming machine tools reached US$71.28 million, down 17.5%.
Japan was the island's major supplier by selling US$355.01 million of machine tools in the first eight months, up 43.7% year-on-year to account for 62.9% of the total imports. Switzerland stood at second place with US$55.09 million, up 135.7% and commanding 9.8%. The third place went to China and Hong Kong together with US$35.91 million, up 51.9% and commanding 6.4%.
