Taipei, Sept. 17, 2008 (CENS)--The 2008 Taipei International Plastics & Rubber Industry Show (Taipei Plas 2008), co-organized by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI), will open Sept. 18 at the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall (TWTC Nangang).

The five-day exhibition will showcase innovative technologies in plastics and rubber processing machinery industry to meet the ever-changing needs of the 3C (computer, consumer electronics and communications) and ICT (information and communication technology) sectors.

TAITRA noted the TaipeiPlas 2008 exhibition will feature injection molding machines, blow molding machines, extrudes and extrusion plants, rubber processing machines, recycling equipment for reprocessing, packaging machines, thermoforming machines, printing machines, printing machines, auxiliary equipment, and relevant parts and components.

Taiwan's plastics and rubber processing machinery enjoys a glowing reputation for excellent quality and reasonable pricing, due mostly to long-term R&D efforts. Currently there are around 200 to 250 manufacturers of plastics and rubber processing machinery on the island, which generated total production valued of US$1.15 billion in 2006, making Taiwan the world's fifth-largest manufacturing nation of the products, only behind Germany, Japan, Italy and the United States.

Taiwan's plastics and rubber processing machinery industry is highly export-oriented, with 81.8% of output (US$939 million) shipped to overseas markets in 2006, according to customs-cleared statistics compiled by the TAMI. Major export destinations of Taiwan-made plastics and rubber processing machinery include Hong Kong and mainland China together, Southeast Asia, Japan, India, the U.S., Turkey and South Africa.

Taiwan's strengths in plastics and rubber processing machinery industries also come from accumulated experience in high-tech sectors and expertise in precision manufacturing.
